Trump signs executive order limiting mail-in ballots; California leaders say they'll fight
Instead of focusing on lowering the cost of energy, groceries, and health care, Donald Trump is desperately attempting to take over and rig our elections and avoid accountability in November. This executive order is a blatant, unconstitutional abuse of power,
President Trump’s Executive Order marks a dangerous and unprecedented escalation in his ongoing attacks on our elections. The power to regulate elections belongs to the States and to Congress — he has no role to play. We blocked his previous Executive Order on elections in court, and we are prepared to stop him again,
In the middle of an unauthorized war abroad and an escalating authoritarian crackdown by ICE here at home, Trump is attempting another illegal power grab,
To put this in plain terms: the order would use the USPS, which is not under the direct control of the President, to interfere with a state’s lawful transmission of ballots. If the state does not comply with these rules, federal law would purport to interfere with a state’s conduct of its own elections,
The reality is that President Trump and Congressional Republicans see the writing on the wall — that they are likely to lose in the upcoming midterms — and they are pushing to make it harder for people to vote,
He’s going to make sure that mail-in ballots are safe secure and accurate,
We want to have honest voting in our country,
Secure ballot envelope identifiers provide a reliable, auditable mechanism to enforce Federal law without unduly burdening or infringing on the rights of eligible voters,
The cheating on mail-in voting is legendary. It’s horrible what’s going on,
The President and the Department of Homeland Security have no authority to commandeer federal elections or direct the independent Postal Service to undermine mail and absentee voting that nearly 50 million Americans relied on in 2024,
Supreme Court says state bans on 'conversion therapy' violate counselors' free speech rights
The 1st Amendment cares about government efforts to suppress ‘speech as speech’ (based on its expressive content), not laws that, like {Colorado’s} that restrict speech incidentally, due to the government’s traditional, garden-variety regulation of such speakers’ professional conduct,
Colorado may regard its policy as essential to public health and safety. Certainly, censorious governments throughout history have believed the same. But the 1st Amendment stands as a shield against any effort to enforce orthodoxy in thought or speech in this country.... However well-intentioned, any law that suppresses speech based on viewpoint represents an “egregious” assault on both of those commitments,
States have traditionally regulated the provision of medical care through licensing schemes and malpractice regimes without constitutional incident,
Iran still firing missiles, U.S. ground operations remain an option, Hegseth says
The U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us,
Our adversary right now thinks there are 15 different ways we can come at them with boots on the ground. And guess what? There are,
A lot has been shown to the world about what our allies would be willing to do for the United States of America when we undertake an effort of this scope on behalf of the free world,
Yes, they will shoot some missiles, but we will shoot them down,
Chabria: The real questions facing the courts after Riverside County sheriff seized those ballots
They do not, under California law, have the right to take ballots away from the Registrar of Voters, and they do not, under California law, have the right to count or handle ballots,
Once the chain of custody... is broken, as they have been with these, you’ll never count them in a way that you’ll be able to get reasonable confidence from the public,
This is about more than just what Sheriff Bianco is doing,
What happens if the ballots have not been properly counted by the right people yet and a sheriff decides they want to go confiscate them

Trump says 'serious' talks are occurring, threatens strikes on Iran energy, water sites
I say to President Trump: no one will be able to stop the war in our region, in the Gulf … Please, help us to stop the war, you are capable of it,
We do not know the origin of the projectile. We have launched an investigation to determine all of the circumstances,
The enemy publicly sends messages of negotiation and dialogue while secretly planning a ground offensive. [They] are nothing more than a cover to hide preparations for a land invasion,
Wealthy countries might be able to absorb this, but for middle-income and fragile economies, it could have a very, very severe impact on their stability,
I do not know how many people in the United States take American diplomacy claims seriously. Our mission is clear, unlike the other side, which constantly changes its position,
I tell President Trump: Nobody can stop the war in our region in the gulf but you,
The enemy, openly, sends messages of negotiation and dialogue, but secretly is planning a ground attack,
Swalwell accuses Trump of trying to influence California governor's race with old FBI files
Reopening it now, right as he leads in the polls and ballots are about to drop, is a political hit-job!”
Time and again, the President and his appointees have weaponized the Department of Justice against those who dare stand up to Trump,
We are at war. Gas prices are soaring. And threats against the homeland are on the rise. But instead of concentrating on the issues most important to this country, Donald Trump and Kash Patel have decided to continue their revenge tour and to interfere in the California Governor’s election,
If the intent in bringing this complaint and leveling false smears was to silence me, that is not going to happen,
What Trump wants the most is to have a Western White House. An enabler on the opposite coast,
Despite the FBI repeatedly saying I was nothing but helpful and never accused of wrongdoing, this complaint was filed by a House Republican,
Trump's approval ratings just hit a new low. A Latino voter shift could reshape the midterms
We’ve already seen in the Virginia and New Jersey legislative and gubernatorial elections really large shifts in the Latino vote, 25 points back to the Democratic Party,
This is not a foreign policy that makes sense and it is not what Trump ran on. It is, in many ways, a betrayal of his campaign promises, what he sold himself as and of his MAGA base,
Trump won in 2024 because of men. They are abandoning him right now,
Overwhelmingly, this is a function of the economy and affordability,
Latinos have emerged as the only true swing vote in America,
At the district level, the Latino vote is going to make a huge impact,
As U.S. threatens, Cubans look ahead, with hope and trepidation

They want to make Cuba another colony, like Puerto Rico,
These are not negotiations. These are not fair talks,
The U.S. is going to put conditions on us, that’s what’s going to happen,
It doesn’t matter what party governs,
They should send them to prison and only give them bread once a day, so they know what it means to die of hunger,
It feels as though the Cuban people finally have a sense of hope for freedom,
'No Kings' protesters pack city streets across the nation as crowds lash out against Trump
The defining story of this Saturday's mobilization is not just how many people are protesting, but where they are protesting,
Since the last ‘No Kings,’ we’re seeing higher gas prices and groceries, all while there’s an illegal war in Iran,
Every time we protest, there’s something completely new, which speaks to the chaos of the Trump administration,
We want to urge our representatives in Congress to not just rubber stamp whatever Trump wants because it’s really hurting rural folks and farmers,
Our folks don’t always protest for things, but this was very important,
My politics haven’t really changed — but the party around me has,
This administration doesn’t serve us. It serves billionaires,
My dad, who’s a [military] veteran and an elder, said: ‘We should go,’ and I said, ‘OK,
Dino’s for Democracy.”
There’s an affordability crisis in this country — people can’t afford groceries or healthcare,

They’re less resilient to these types of challenges,
If these other guys make the same mistakes they made six years ago, and if the forecast about $175 per barrel is right, you’ll see airlines not survive,
Just like the gas stations have, we’ll have to adjust pricing to reflect our cost of fuel,
We’ve prepared for shocks to our industry, because they occur on a regular basis,
How the landmark verdict against Meta and YouTube could hit their businesses
The outcome Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court is potentially precedent-setting for thousands of other pending lawsuits nationwide and could reshape how tech companies are held accountable for children’s harm caused by their products
Teen mental health is profoundly complex and cannot be linked to a single app. We will continue to defend ourselves vigorously as every case is different, and we remain confident in our record of protecting teens online,
It’s likely that tech firms will now face increased scrutiny over the design of their platforms, which should drive more thoughtful inclusion of features that foster healthier interactions and safeguard mental health,
Neither Meta nor YouTube is going to do anything different until a court orders them to, or there’s a significant drop in user or advertiser use,
These verdicts mark an unsurprising breaking point. Negative sentiment toward social media has been building for years, and now it’s finally boiled over,
This case misunderstands YouTube, which is a responsibly built streaming platform, not a social media site,
If we’re still struggling to put effective guardrails around social media after nearly two decades, we’re far from prepared for the growing harms of AI, which is moving faster, scaling wider, and embedding itself far deeper into people’s lives,
Iran war rages on heading into fifth week, as Trump maintains that U.S. has 'already won'
Well they did say that, but I don’t know if it was only them. I think a lot of people are saying that. Which puts him off to a bad start in that particular country, you know
Now I’m not allowed to say this, it’s the end of my political career, but you may be even better looking, OK?”
I’m debating whether to be serious or not serious.”

Where else can I go? The first night we left, we ended up sleeping on the seafront corniche in Sidon. I won’t do that again,
I would have stayed in my village, but I couldn’t leave them,
We’re scattered: some in one school, others in another shelter. I slept in the car,
What can I do about that plane anyway? Nothing,
This is not a short shock. … The crisis is no longer only about where people sleep tonight, but how they will live, eat, and access healthcare in the weeks ahead,
Yes,... What should I do? I can’t just let them die.”
Us and our kids, we’re generations of war,
If they take out the last bridge and nothing can come in, it’s going to be a catastrophe,
I can’t release them. They wouldn’t survive, and besides, we just got new hatchlings,
I left to another part of Lebanon the last war and I regretted it. I won’t make the same mistake, and I trust the men who are fighting the Israelis,
Justice Department to investigate California over housing of trans inmates at women's prisons
In California there are reports of many dozen such men housed in women’s prisons which of course is exposing these women to sexual assault and other forms of violence and harassment that, if true, are extremely troubling and could violate the civil rights of these women,
Every day incarcerated women suffer from sexual harassment and abuse by the admission of men who say they are women,
I’m very determined to ensure that no woman whose incarcerated in the United States is subject to potential rape, sexual assault or other violations of her civil rights as a condition of incarceration to satisfy some woke ideology by the state,
The way they wrote (the complaint) is saying that trans women are men and they are putting men in women’s prisons, which is completely false,
Trump says he wants to send federalized troops to L.A., San Francisco
In San Francisco, crime is down 30%, encampments are at record lows, and our city is on the rise,
We can do it much more effectively, because [local leaders] can’t do what we do,
San Francisco was a great city, could quickly become a great city again,
Crime is down 75% in a short period of time,
The judges are really hurting this country,
Deploying federalized troops on the heels of these raids is a chaotic escalation,
Trump projects confidence, claims Iran is 'begging' for deal, but war exit remains murky
They better get serious soon, before it is too late,... because once that happens, there is NO TURNING BACK, and it won’t be pretty.”

Savannah Guthrie described frantic moments she learned mother was missing: 'Something is very wrong here'
I don’t know that it’s because she’s my mom and somebody thought, ‘Oh, that girl — that lady has money. We can... make a quick buck,’
We thought that she must have had like some kind of medical episode in the night and somehow the paramedics had come because the back doors were propped open... and that didn’t make any sense,
My mom, she was in tremendous pain,
My sister called me. I said, ‘Is everything OK?’ And she said, ‘No.’ She said, ‘Mom’s missing,
Iran dismisses Trump's peace plan as 'deceptive,' as U.S. deploys more troops to Mideast
Iran will end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met,
You have reached a stage where you are negotiating with yourselves,
At the same time, we continue to strike both in Iran and in Lebanon,
The president has made it clear that you will not have a nuclear weapon. The War Department agrees,

Supreme Court makes it harder for music and movie makers to sue for online piracy
Under our precedents, a company is not liable as a copyright infringer for merely providing a service to the general public with knowledge that it will be used by some to infringe copyrights,
To be effective, copyright law must protect creators and markets from harmful infringement and policymakers should look closely at the impact of this ruling,
The decision means that the Supreme Court isn’t coming to the entertainment industry’s rescue,
Cox provided Internet service to its subscribers, but it did not intend for that service to be used to commit copyright infringement,
Hasty plans for forum to replace scrapped USC governor's debate fall apart
The USC Dornsife Center for the Political Future was set to host a debate that was criticized because it included San José Mayor Matt Mahan, a white candidate polling near the bottom of the pack but supported by notable names in the USC community
The idea that none of the candidates of color are going to be joining a debate is just inappropriate for a state like California,
A lot of this came out of nowhere — there’s a debate and you’re not invited, followed by there’s no debate, and then maybe we should all hang out and have a conversation,
We looked into the possibility of doing something. It just wasn’t possible because of the last-minute logistics. It was not feasible,
We were trying to do the right thing upon learning that the debate was canceled at USC,
This is like probably one of last opportunities they have to be with other leading contenders of the race, so why not take this opportunity

Migrants from Guatemala and Honduras seek asylum in Mission, Texas, in 2021
You can’t arrive in the United States while you’re still standing in Mexico. That should be the end of this case,
For more than 45 years, Congress has guaranteed people arriving at our borders the right to seek asylum, consistent with our international treaty obligations,
The people turned away at our border are fleeing rape, torture, kidnapping, and death threats. You cannot tell families running for their lives to go back and wait in danger because their suffering is inconvenient,
I can’t predict the next border surge,
